I am so excited to work with you and capture the moments that matter most. It’s natural to feel a bit anxious before your mini-session—after all, photographs are more than just images; they’re memories etched in time.

Whether you’re celebrating the tiny hands of a newborn, the boundless energy of toddlers, or the loyal companionship of your pets, this stage of life deserves to be captured beautifully. Life moves fast, and moments slip by, but through photography, you can hold onto the love, laughter, and stories that make your journey unique.

When I started my photography journey, I knew I wanted to create something meaningful for families. Mini sessions have a special place in my heart—they’re quick, but they capture the essence of your life right now.

From the smallest giggles to the quiet, loving glances, every moment is worth preserving. Photography gives us the chance to pause, to cherish, and to reflect on how far we’ve come and the beautiful memories we’re still creating.

This is more than a photo session; it’s a celebration of you and your family. Let’s capture the moments you’ll treasure forever.

Preparing for Your Mini Photography Session

Preparing for your mini-photography session can feel overwhelming, but this guide is here to help! Inside, you'll find practical tips and advice to ensure your session runs smoothly and you get the most out of your time in front of the camera. From outfit choices to keeping your kids and pets happy, this guide will help you feel confident and ready to capture beautiful memories.

Why Mini Sessions Matter:

Mini sessions are perfect for capturing special moments without the time or cost commitment of a full session. They’re great for updating family photos, documenting milestones, or celebrating the joys of everyday life. With a shorter time frame, mini-sessions are ideal for busy families or those who want a quick and fun experience. Plus, they’re an affordable way to invest in professional photography, allowing you to preserve memories beautifully and efficiently.

What to Expect During Your Mini Session:

Arrival and Introduction:

  • It is best to arrive at the location I have sent you a few minutes early to get settled. Mini sessions are back-to-back and it is important that we start on time.

Session Details:

  • Your mini-session will last approximately 10-15 minutes. We will make the most of this time to capture a variety of images.
  • If you have young children or pets, don’t worry! Mini sessions are quick and easy, leaving the littles happy they don't have to be in front of the camera for too long.

Pose and Play:

  • We’ll start with a few posed shots and then move to more natural, candid moments. Feel free to interact with your loved ones and enjoy the session!
  • I’ll guide you through poses and expressions, but the focus will be on capturing genuine, joyful moments.

Outfit and Style:

  • Choose outfits that reflect your style and are comfortable. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to offer suggestions based on your session’s theme and location.
  • Avoid busy patterns and logos to keep the focus on you and your family. I always suggest outfits that are complimentary in colors, not necessarily "matching".
  • Please let me know ahead of time if you would like assistance with outfit coordination and styling.

Viewing and Selection:

  • After the session, I’ll provide you with a link to a private gallery where you can view your images.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to select the 5-7 images that are included in your session for editing and discuss if there are any additional photos in the gallery you want to order, prints that are offered, or other products you might want.

Final Delivery:

  • Edited images will be delivered within 2 weeks of your session date via digital download.

Enjoy and Cherish:

  • Your photos will capture the essence of this special moment in your life. Enjoy looking through them and sharing them with your loved ones!

What to wear for my mini-session

When coordinating outfits for your family session, aim for a cohesive look by focusing on a complementary color palette rather than matching outfits. Instead of trying to make everyone’s clothing match, think about how different pieces fit together harmoniously. This approach adds a visual aesthetic and allows each personality to shine.

To achieve a well-coordinated look, avoid having everyone wear the same color from head to toe. Instead, mix and match colors and shades. Plan each outfit with a dominant color and an accent color in mind. The dominant color is the one that appears most prominently in an outfit, while the accent color is used sparingly.

By assigning each family member a different dominant color and coordinating accent colors, you'll create a visually appealing and balanced look.

Tips for a stress-free mini-session

  1. Arrive Early
  2. Avoid snacks that are colored and messy before your session
  3. Bring water and a toy your kids or pets can have to feel comfortable during the session.
  4. Stay relaxed and have fun!

for the ladies:

Imagine a mini session where your outfit not only looks stunning but also lets you move freely with your little ones. Dresses and skirts are perfect for this, as they flatter every body type and look amazing on camera. Long, flowy dresses or skirts made from soft fabrics like chiffon or tulle add elegant movement to your photos.

If you’ll be interacting with kids, opt for a floor-length dress or a cute midi-skirt. These styles provide ease of movement and practicality while still looking beautiful in your photos. By choosing the right outfit, you’ll be both stylish and comfortable, making your session a breeze.

A message for the guys:

I understand that having your pictures taken might not be your top choice for downtime activities. You might feel a bit awkward in front of the camera at first. However, I think you’ll discover that by the end of the session, it’s much easier than you expected—and you might even enjoy it a bit! To ensure the best results, please avoid wearing hats and sunglasses, as they can obscure your face and affect the overall look of your photos. For a cohesive and polished appearance, I always suggest opting for solid-color shirts paired with khakis or denim.

Capturing Authentic Moments

Mini sessions are about capturing a glimpse of genuine, heartfelt moments that define your family. I like to focus on authentic moments that highlight the real connections and emotions that make your relationships unique. During the session, I try and guide you in a way that feels natural and relaxed, allowing you to be yourselves and let your true personalities shine. This approach will give you beautiful, meaningful images that tell your story in the most authentic way possible.

I can't wait to work with you!
